Some gaits of gaited horses are natural, and some are artificial. Artificial gaits are forced or manipulated
by mechanical aids.
The Icelandic Horse show world uses a lot of mechanical aids to show artificial gaits.
Many of the Icelandic Horse owners in North America prefer to ride their horses' natural gaits. Some breeders
and trainers follow the style of Iceland and Europe in manufacturing gaits, but as owners become more educated and
informed, we see the trend going towards natural gait.
