Rider Confidence http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ryderconfidence

and any other group that is associated with this list of groups.

Please read carefully.

YahooGroups gives owners the right to choose the type of list and rules, and provides the owners with the ability to moderate, unsubscribe, and ban subscribers who do not follow the rules.

Additionally, if a subscriber breaks rules that are against the Terms of Service (TOS) of YahooGroups, it can result in loss of their Yahoo ID, their own list, their ISP, and their domain host.

These rules are not up for debate or discussion. These rules will be periodically posted to the lists, with revisions, if any.

ZERO TOLERANCE

The list administration has a zero tolerance for failure to respect and comply with the list rules. Any disregard for the list rules and list protocol may be cause for immediate unsubscription and/or ban from the list. Do not expect to be warned first, this is your warning. If you value your participation with this list, do not test the Administrators' patience, argue with policy, or complain about the rules.

SPAMMERS

We have some of the largest horse lists on YahooGroups. Our training list IS the largest horse group on YahooGroups; three of our lists are in the top ten largest horse lists.

We are familiar with spammers attempting to harvest email addresses from our lists. Please be advised that we take aggressive action in stopping these practices.

We make every attempt to prevent the danger of subscribers' email addresses being harvested by spammers. If you suspect a spammer has acquired your email address through your subscription to one of our discussion lists, please send all relevant information to the list owner and you will be provided with the proper addresses to which to report the spam. We must all do our part to stop this nefarious harvesting.

The same policy applies to those attempting to use these lists for advertising. Advertising on the lists is limited to those who contribute to the support and maintenance of the websites, boards, webrings, lists, etc.

It takes a lot of time, dedication, and financial commitment to set up, maintain, and provide support for these important and beneficial sites. These sites are available for private individuals to access and use at no cost.

If you are subscribing to cause problems, harvest email addresses, or use the lists for free advertising, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE!! Move on.

PURPOSE

These lists provide forums for those interested in horses, and in horse-training. We promote state-of-the-art horse training.

ATMOSPHERE

There is a strong code of proper etiquette (email netiquette) on these lists, and it is every subscriber's responsibility to uphold that code of etiquette and set a good example for others. Treat others as you would like to be treated. It is very important that each subscriber does his/her part to contribute to a healthy, helpful atmosphere. We are here to share information and thoughts, discuss in a friendly manner, and to help each other.

POSTING FORMAT

All posts to the lists must be in plain text format. If you do not know what this means, you'll need to find out before posting to the list. There is more information here: http://iceryder.net/html.html. If you have AOL, you may have to get a web-based email address to post to the list.

Choose your words wisely as the archives are open to the public. Do not say anything you will be sorry about.

TRIM/EDIT

It is MANDATORY to trim the original message to which you are responding down to a few lines (deleting all extraneous information such as headers, trailers, signatures, addresses, etc), and the previous poster's email address (this is to protect them from spammers).

If using Reply to Sender to send a message to the list, the previous message must be edited down to 2-3 lines only, as reference; or use a new, clean email to post to the list. More information on editing here: http://iceryder.net/html.html

Posting privileges may be revoked if replies to the lists are not trimmed/edited, or not in plain text format.

ADVERTISING

These lists do not allow advertising. Advertising or promotion of breeders, clinics, clinicians, books, videos, tack, trainers, etc. should be taken to the list owner. Neither is this the place to announce other lists.

CROSS-POSTING

Cross-posting (putting more than one list in the TO: field, or CC'ing other lists) is against email netiqette and is not allowed on any of these lists.

NEW MEMBERS

All new subscribers to these lists will automatically be placed on "Moderated" Status.

It is highly recommended that new members read the list without posting for a few weeks to get a "feel" for the list.

New subscribers will still be able to post on any discussion, but all messages will run through the approval process of the List Administration. At some point, the subscriber's status *may* be changed to normal. Any new subscribers whose first posts do not adhere to the list policies will be set to "No-Post" which means they can read the posts, and they can respond to others in private email, but they are not allowed to post to the list. Some members may remain on moderated status if they continually appear to be argumentative or in disharmony with the list. If the new subscriber continues to disregard the list rules, or become too high maintenance, the subscriber will be unsubscribed from the list.

ATTITUDE

All messages must be cordial. If you can not discuss in an open and friendly manner, you do not belong on these lists. Offenders will immediately be placed on moderated status, no-post, or unsubscribed from the lists.

This is not a free-for-all forum. You do not have the right to say anything that you chose to say. Posts should reflect the topic of the list, and be in alignment with the nature of the list. If you do not like the topic of the list, you do not have the right to argue about it; you have the right to go elsewhere.

META discussions are not allowed.

TROLLS

We have not had many trolls on our lists, maybe one or two. Trolls are problem-causers. They come in different forms; some may bring up and / or promote topics that are opposite the focus of the list. Some will be rude on purpose. Some will continue to question the focus of the list, or the rules of the list. META discussions are not allowed on the list. The rules are not up for discussion or debate. Please do not encourage the trolls who subscribe to lists for the reason of causing problems.

OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSIONS

Because our lists are high traffic, and have large numbers of subscribers, it is important to keep the lists on topic. Do not post jokes, advertisements, virus alerts, chain letters, or other off-topic material to the list. We are discussing horses and horse training. Religion, taxes, politics, etc. are off topic. Do not respond on these lists to a topic on another list, or reference a member from another list.

Stay on topic; we do not need monitors, police, big brothers, or babysitters to add "balance" to our lists.

SUBJECT LINE

When a subject changes, as they tend to do, please change the subject line to reflect this.

Do not, Do Not, DO NOT include the previous subject in the new subject title. It makes the subject title too cumbersome and creates problems in integrity of the archives and reduces the capability of the search engine.
Also please make sure not to leave the subject line blank.

SIGNATURES

Sign your post with your name. You are welcome to include your webpage URL in your signature. Email netiquette calls for signatures to be: not more than 150 characters and less than 4 lines.

DIGEST OPTION

For those who would like to receive only one mailing per day from the lists, you can switch your subscription to Digest. Check the list homepage for the Digest address.

BOUNCING SUBSCRIBERS

If you suddenly are not receiving the posts from any or all of the lists, it is likely that your email account has "bounced" - this means that, for some reason, your ISP rejected the email from YahooGroups, and YahooGroups has placed your account on "Bouncing Status" which means you will not receive further emails from ANY list at YahooGroups until you reactivate your account. You can check your status at http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs.

VACATION/NO-MAIL

To set your subcriptions to No Mail, login at http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups and click on to the drop-down box by the name of the list. The No Mail and Digest options should be available.

ATTACHMENTS

The lists only accept .jpg or .gif attachments and the files must be less than 40KB. Please check and double check before sending an attachment to the list. Pictures can NOT be imbedded within the text of a message, only as attachments.

ARCHIVES

Most of the lists have double sets of archives--those located within the Yahoo system and an additional set at http://mail-achive.com. To find the archives for a particular list, substitute the name of the list for "listname" in the following address: http://www.escribe.com/pets/listname (i.e. http://www.escribe.com/pets/billsbook)

These are the list rules, they are not up for debate or discussion.

NOTES FROM OTHER LIST OWNERS

>>Freedom of Speech does *NOT* apply to e-mail lists, it never has.. Belonging to an e-mail list is *NOT* a right, but a privilege.. As with most privileges, abuse of privileges usually leads to the loss of those privileges.

E-mail lists are *NOT* public forums, and "Rights" do not apply.. They are privately operated entities.

Any rules a list owner makes are items that are quite within his/her rights to make, and anyone who does not care to abide by the rules for any given list can either leave, or be removed by the list owner at any time for violating the list's rules, with no recourse available to the removed member...<<

>>Do you ever lock your house or do you just leave it open and let anyone come in? Let's say a stranger comes in - after all most list joiners are strangers right? Would you accept *any* kind of behaviour they choose with you and the other friends you care about who are there at your house?<<

>>Remember that the list is a private place - not some public arena - the person who owns the premises would be very wrong not to take their responsibility seriously.<<

>>It's also good that different lists have different policies, so that people who all enjoy a particular style can go to a list where that style is in vogue. You know - I have cats in my house and they get to sit on the chairs - maybe you don't like that in your house, so you have a different rule - only dogs on the chairs or whatever.<<

>>I agree fully with the tools provided at Yahoo for list moderators. It helps one "keep house" in an appropriate way.<<

>>As far as posts on your list, you don't have to allow any message that you don't want to. Make your list fully moderated, then you can reject (or simply delete) any post that you don't like, approve only the ones that are appropriate for your list and are not flames of you (or anyone else).

Many lists have rules that prohibit flaming of anyone and they enforce that by either moderating the entire list or moderating new members or moderating only certain members. But always remember, it's your list, you get to say what messages can be posted and the Moderated setting is how you reject the messages you don't want on your list.<<

>Lists are not democracies, free speech does not apply. You own your list and you get to set the rules and you get to say who can join and who has to leave. Yahoo backs you up on this. They give you features that allow you to unsub members and to ban them. <<

Anyone who does not feel comfortable with these rules, should unsubscribe themselves post haste.
