Saddle Fit and the Last Rib

For purposes of saddle fit (length-wise), the saddle should not sit past the last rib. First order of course is to determine where the last rib is, and then to follow it up and mark the point at which it connects to the spine.

With short-backed Icelandic Horses / Ponies, this measurement / area can be limiting as to the length of saddle (and the size of the butt :-)) that will go on the pony!
